A Year Of Music (part02)
It’s the end of the year and time to highlight the significant records of 2023.
Second list with TOP 10 ALBUMS
1/ Anthony Naples – Orbs [ANS]
New York City musician and producer delivers a orbital soundtrack between ambient, electronic soundscapes and atmospheric techno. It’s cold and solar, it’s not a foolish expressive emotions (like some « new age » revival musical expressions) but concrete soul odyssey. Finally it’s the « entre-deux » between electronic and machines production and organic and human being land.
2/ Kirk DeGiorgio – Robe Of Dreams [Neroli]
« This album was recorded over a two-month period immediately following a truly unforgettable experience at We Out Here festival in 2022. I was in an awe-struck, ecstatic crowd who witnessed the final performance of jazz legend Pharoah Sanders. It was a reminder to me that we all stand on the shoulders of giants who created a path for us to follow awith love and respect. This is my humble tribute the the artists who shaped my musical world. »
When I first listened this soundtrack I immediately thought about electronic jazz project of Carl Craig Innerzone Orchestra.
3/ Caixa Cubo – Agora [Jazz & Milk]
A contemporary blend of jazz fusion & afro-brazilian musics by a jazz trio formed Henrique Gomide (piano), João Fideles (drums), Noa Stroeter (bass). It’s fresh, danceable, sophisticated but available. Each track got its identity and the all tracklist is a very good trip with a top-notch recordings and production in german Jazz & Milk studio. The legacy of legendary jazz fusion trio Azymuth.
4/ The Circling Sun – Spirits [Soundway]
New-Zealand is a promised land for modal, deep and spiritual jazz? The answer is yes and this album is the most interesting lp in the kingdom of jazz in 2023. Perfect to beginning until end.
5/ Atlantis Jazz Ensemble – Celestial Suite [Marlow Records]
Jazz is definetly not dead and the canadian band Atlantis Jazz Ensemble offers us a solid example with a post-bop, modal and jazz-dancefloor oriented album floating in the cosmos.
